Personal development and progression of your own work are essential in a changing working environment

Learning Weeks is an event for Orion employees, which focuses on personal development and work-life skills. At Orion, we believe that lifelong learning is a requirement for competitiveness.

The two-week Learning Weeks event includes numerous sessions on the world of work and personal development. The aim of the event is to maintain and accelerate Orion's culture of learning – lifelong learning is key for both competitiveness and job satisfaction:

“Personal development and progression of your own work are essential in the rapidly changing environment in which we operate. Of course, we learn all the time in our everyday lives, when we tackle the challenges related to our work. Still, it’s good to stop and focus on various themes every now and again and actively seek new perspectives. They enrich our work and provide new energy and enthusiasm for day to day work life,” says Learning Solutions, Team Leader Susanna Sevón-Laakso.

Personal development and transferable skills were audience magnets

This time, many of the sessions during the Learning Weeks event focused not only on personal development and development of your own work, but also on increasing well-being. Among the external speakers, there was much interest in the presentation by Nina Lyytinen, a work psychologist: Self-management – energising work and leisure, Jari Hakanen, a research professor at the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health: Boosting work engagement by adjusting your work, and Minna Huotilainen, a brain researcher: Where did my ability to concentrate go?

A full day was dedicated to presentations on the quality of operations. Data security and DE&I issues were also covered in the presentations. Many of Orion’s own experts had also done a lot of work towards the event and gave presentations on current topics such as career development opportunities and Orion's scenario project.

Guided tours provide a more accurate picture

This time, the event also included production and laboratory tours, which gave Orionees the opportunity to view the work of their colleagues in the inhalation production premises and the quality control laboratory.

“Many people welcomed this opportunity. You gain a better understanding of Orion as a whole when you see the actual operations on location,” Susanna says.

The aim was to make the event as varied as possible and as useful for as many as possible, so that everyone – regardless of job, title or organisation – would gain new inspiration for their daily work.

“We hope that the sessions will stimulate discussion and help us work together to develop operations. This will allow us to keep benefiting from the Learning Weeks for a long time after the event,” says Sevón-Laakso.

The Learning Weeks event is planned to take place again this year.
