Turku factory extension completed
25 Aug 2014 | Orion’s Turku factory extension project, which was started at the end of 2012, has been completed. The new production premises for hormone gels was brought into production use according to schedule in July.
Orion’s own products and contract manufacturing products for other pharmaceutical companies will be produced in the new four-storey building measuring 6,000 square metres. The extension will meet the growing demand for a male hormone solution product, in particular, which is aimed at the global market.
“The extension will increase the surface area of the factory by 30%. Not including the opening of the packaging and logistics centre in Salo, this is the largest extension in the supply chain for decades,” explains says Esa Nauska, Director of Contract Manufacturing.
The extension was connected to the old hormone gel production facilities in the summer. The factory is not yet functioning to its full capacity as the new filling and packaging line will be started up next winter.
Orion produces tablets, creams and cancer drugs in Turku. The Turku factory on Tengströminkatu has been in operation since 1972 and about 700 Orion staff members work there.
