At Orion, we also closely monitor emissions that are not directly generated by our own operations. These include, for example, the emissions generated by the production of the materials used in Orion’s products, and transport.
To tackle emissions, we have determined what the emissions are throughout the entire value chain. Our goal is to find the parts of the chain where we have the biggest opportunities to reduce emissions.
As part of our commercial contracts, we already require our partners to take environmentally-friendly measures, such as minimising carbon emissions, ensuring good environmental management and following the principle of continuous improvement. As we start working more closely together with our partners, we are able to create an even more sustainable culture with them.
Why raise the bar?
Only 4% of the emissions from our products’ life cycle are directly generated by our own operations. Up to 96% come from sources in the supply chain that Orion does not own or control – that is, purchased materials and transport. Orion has the ambitious objective to be carbon neutral in its own operations, but we also have a duty to look at emissions generated outside of our enterprise.
How are we raising the bar?
We will examine the emission figures outside our own operations and, based on that, create a roadmap that includes the next concrete measures and their schedules. We will work more closely together with our suppliers to reduce emissions.
