The early-phase drug development at Orion focuses on research into the central nervous system, cancer and rare diseases and on biological drug research. Our central nervous system research focuses on selected patient segments in Parkinson’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and neuropathic pain. The main goal of our cancer research is to develop better treatments with new mechanisms of action for prostate cancer and steroid hormone-dependent breast cancer. In our research into rare diseases we focus on progressive and serious diseases that reduce quality of life at a young age and hereditary diseases that reduce life expectancy for which there are no suitable drugs available.
“Our goal in all our therapy areas is, based on an understanding the biology of the diseases and through the selected mechanism of action, to develop treatments that slow the progression of the disease and significantly relieve the symptoms of the disease,” says Professor Antti Haapalinna (Vice President, Research and Development Global Head, Therapy Area Rare Diseases & Biologics, Biomarkers and New Modalities Global Function, R&D).
