Bribery, corporate hospitality and business gifts

Orion’s employees or any other persons acting on behalf of Orion are supposed not to offer, give or accept bribes. Representatives of authorities shall not be offered any inappropriate economic benefit for the purpose of promoting Orion’s business or pursuing the company’s other interests.

Bribery in all possible forms is forbidden, meaning money or comparable other valuable advantage given or received suggesting decision-making in favour of Orion’s or a third party’s business. Typical potential objects of bribery are persons representing public institutions, authorities, healthcare professionals, healthcare and other service providers and suppliers, among others.

The means of influencing public decision makers shall be in accordance with Orion’s general business policy and the national and EU regulations concerning interaction and methods of communicating with legislative bodies and regulatory authorities. Attempts to influence via third parties are not acceptable either.

Corporate hospitality and business gifts to customers, other business partners and public decision makers shall be in accordance with Orion’s general business policy, the national and EU regulations as well as the nationally and internationally adopted codes of practice concerning  the promotion of medicinal products.

Hospitality and expressions of gratitude must be within reason. It is acceptable to give and receive presents or benefits of minor nature and reasonable in quantity and value. The distinction between a present and a bribe is different in different cultures; in some countries minor business gifts are a part of the culture, while in other countries they are not. Even if a gift might seem reasonable, it is advisable to consider how it would be understood by an outsider. A gift is something you can talk about openly, a bribe is not. A bribe is assumed to involve favours in return whereas a gift is not.
