Responsible Care
Responsible Care® is the chemical industry’s global voluntary initiative under which companies, through their national associations, work together to continuously improve their health, safety and environmental performance, and to communicate with stakeholders about their products and processes.
The Responsible Care® ethic helps the pharmaceutical and chemical industry to operate safely, profitably and with due care for future generations, and was commended by UNEP as making a significant contribution to sustainable development at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002.
Fermion and its parent company Orion Corporation support these efforts. Solvent emissions result from production phases like filtering, distilling, drying and the cleaning of process equipment. The use of the most problematic solvents, like chlorinated hydrocarbons, has been reduced significantly. However, there are still cases where they cannot be replaced.
Today, all VOC-emissions were brought under effective control when the new solvent gas treatment facilities were taken into use at Fermion’s Oulu and Hanko plants in late 2007. These facilities combust all solvent gases into non-hazardous compounds and also generate energy for Fermion’s processes at its Hanko plant.
Fermion and its intermediates suppliers are actively implementing the guidelines of the REACH-legislation and are in the process of registering chemical compounds.
