Aija Ratia prepares cancer medicines in Turku

Name: Aija Ratia
Duty: Production worker
Location: Turku
Orioneer since: 2007

The world of medicines was new to Aija Ratia when she started, but the job advertisement promised a thorough orientation.

– I felt very welcomed here and have enjoyed myself. You learn the job by doing, as long as you have a courageous and positive attitude.

Aija has been able to make use of her previous experience as a baker and employee in cell phone production.

– This is a bit like working in a bakery: preparing mass with big mixers. At Nokia, on the other hand, I learned to use computers and other machinery, she says.

In Turku’s specialty product department employees work mostly in day shift and in pairs. Every team member is able to prepare mass, make tablets and do raw material weighing. The tasks change on a weekly basis.

– It is nice to have some variety. In addition, substituting is easy when we are capable of multi-tasking. We also have flexible working hours and personal errands are possible to organize when discussed beforehand, says Aija with gratitude.

The product comes with many regulations, which has required some getting used to: for example the documentation has to be precisely right. Also wearing protective clothing is crucial in the department.

Aija is building well-being first and foremost by making high quality products – keeping in mind, that the consumer is another human being.

– I try to imagine that if the medicine I am preparing would be addressed to me, what would I want it to be like. My goal is always that everything I do is one hundred per cent good and flawless.
